Penetration tests and attack simulations show whether your controls work against real techniques. Tests based on ransomware playbooks reveal the paths an attacker would actually take.

Why it matters

For Ransomware, testing is rarely a purely technical question. It touches ownership, budget and how quickly decisions can be made when something goes wrong. Teams that agree on these points in advance spend less time debating them under pressure.

What to check

  • Run an internal penetration test yearly
  • Test detection, not only prevention
  • Fix and retest the findings

Where to start

Combine technical tests with a tabletop exercise for management. Write down what you decide, who owns it and when it will be reviewed. That record is often the evidence a reviewer asks for later.
